Meet Florencia: Voluntario Global's new Volunteer Coordinator!

How would you best describe yourself in 3 words?

I would say I am a really passionate person, I always try to do things that I believe in. Maybe sometimes I overthink certain things, so I would describe myself as an over-thinker. I like being around and helping people, so I would describe myself as being a social person.

Why did you want to be a part of an organization like Voluntario Global?

I am currently studying educational sciences and hope to improve myself in that specific field whilst working for Voluntario Global and also in the future. I am very passionate about gender issues and equality, as well as social structures.

How would you best describe your new role within the organization?

A main focus will be paying attention to the volunteers, and assisting them with any of their needs and any concerns they may have whilst visiting Buenos Aires. I also need to understand the necessity of the local projects, as well as their neighbourhoods and surrounding areas.

What are you looking to gain from this role, both professionally and personally?

Personally, I want to believe in myself. I am learning that I can deal with some responsibilities I was unaware of. Connecting with many different people, with many different stories, I think this is a really interesting part of the job. Professionally, I want to fully understand how social networks work throughout the country. I am already learning a lot about different realities, gaining knowledge that there are some child centres that are funded by the government, and then many that are completely independent.

What is a current social issue in Buenos Aires and how can organizations like Voluntario Global help?

Voluntario Global understands particular problems of an area. Each year, we try to help the projects improve their work, and empower the people within the local communities. We assist in many different levels, as we become the link between volunteers and the work itself. Projects include child care centres, heath and wellness centres, as well as soup kitchens, just to name a few. All the projects are fighting against different problems.

What do you want people from around the world to know about Argentina?

The most important attribute to the city and country is the people. The people are very friendly. We love to socialize over Mate, or gathering and enjoying food and drink together.
