It was a sunny afternoon in wintery Buenos Aires, the occasion was to get together with all our volunteers with the excuse of eating some snacks and chat for a bit. The real and more important reason was to discuss a social dilemma with a complex situation and create a debate to seek for a solution.
Then an interesting topic came up: protests and going to the streets to create awareness of a social problem. Since all of us come from different backgrounds and countries, everybody had a different perspective on this issue. There were some who said this is vital to gain recognition from the government and some others didn't see any practical results from this action.
After exchanging ideas for a while and learning about our fellow volunteer’s political activism in their countries we came with the following conclusions:
* We believe that uniting as a community and reaching to our neighbors is a better plan to figure out solutions that can be solved by the State, than acting from individuality.
* Social manifestation by marching on the streets and protesting about our rights is a great tool for creating change and seeking answers from the government.
* We need to held accountable the political actors of our countries, about the implementation of basic needs and the following of fundamental rights, when we are not receiving any help from them.
Besides working towards a community based NGO, Voluntario Global aims to connect its volunteers with each other and give them space to interact and learn about everyone’s views, in this way they can broaden their perspective and apply this knowledge once they go back home.
