What initially interested you about volunteering with Voluntario Global?

I have always wanted to go to South America, and as I am fluent in Spanish, it seemed like a perfect match. Before arriving, I searched on the internet for organisations in Argentina which offer communication opportunities in the form of volunteering. I didn’t want to work for a big company as I wanted to do something for other people, I saw great reviews and decided to contact Voluntario Global.

What were your duties as a Volunteer and what projects did you work on?

As I was one of the communication volunteers, one of my duties was to write articles for the Voluntario Global blog. As I am not completely comfortable writing in English, I was able to write articles in both French and Spanish, which is great for attracting a wider variety of volunteers. Additionally, I visited all of the projects and had the opportunity to interview the co-ordinators and the volunteers which help with the projects.

What will you take away from your experience volunteering here?

The experience has taught me a lot about autonomy and being independent. It has also taught me to not complain about the little things in my life as there is worse elsewhere; for example in France, all children are able to attend kindergarten, in Buenos Aires, this is not the case. I’ve learnt a lot about myself and how to live in a different country with a different culture. The experience has changed me as a person!

What kind of activities were you doing in your spare time?

The majority of my weekends I spent travelling! Not so much Argentina per say, but I visited Brazil one weekend, Uruguay another, I attended Lollapalooza festival as well! When I wasn’t travelling, I enjoyed exploring the streets of Buenos Aires and taking in this wonderful city.

Would you have any advice for any future communication volunteers?

Enjoy every second of your time in Buenos Aires as you have a great opportunity to work for a really great cause. Time flies by so quickly! I would also say to always be safe, aware and switched on when travelling around.

Thank you for joining us, what are your plans next?

I am going to Colombia to visit my sister once I’ve finished my experience with Voluntario Global. Once I’ve returned home after that I will hopefully travel a bit of Europe and in September, I will be beginning my masters.
