Psychology student and Voluntario Global Ambassador Hannah Schiemann spent 3 months in a kindergarten in Buenos Aires, and thinks it helped her get a better understanding of people across many different cultures.

What do you do now?

I'm studying psychology and I'm working in a kindergarten.

How was your experience of coming home after your time at Voluntario Global?

I felt so many different emotions! Of course I was happy to be home with my family and friends but I also missed Buenos Aires and especially my friends at the hostel so much. For a few weeks it felt so unreal to not be in Argentina anymore.

How do you think your experience at Voluntario Global has been useful in your work or studies since leaving Buenos Aires?

I'm studying psychology and I dream of working with children so of course it was very helpful to get to know children in a different country and find out similarities and differences in the routines in the kindergarten. Besides working in the kindergarten, getting to know so many different people, personalities and cultures will be very useful when it comes to understanding and helping people (and that's what psychology is about).

Who would you recommend your project to?

To basically everyone. But especially to young people like me who just finished school and want to experience something different before starting studying or working.

Pensar el voluntariado como una experiencia colectiva

Siempre decimos que el voluntariado es un proceso de aprendizaje, y un proceso de aprendizaje jamás sucede de manera aislada. Por lo tanto el voluntariado también es una experiencia colectiva.

Volunteering as a collective experience

As we always say, volunteering is a learning process. And a learning process is never isolated. Volunteering is also a collective experience signed by the relation we'll create with the communities we'll work with.
