I chose to participate in Milpa because I think it's a place that supports the community. I want to learn and reflect on some of the challenges in the community and also in the world.
I think it is a unique space because we don't have many spaces like this in the United States, my community is facing many similar challenges, I want to learn and observe how people here think of solutions and work together to support each other as they do in Milpa.
For example, the challenges brought by the pandemic, many young people do not have access to work and this also happens in the rural sectors in Maine. It is also a global challenge to think about the commercialization chain, we don't think much about that when we buy things but it is important to think about how to shorten that chain and if it is possible to buy locally.
I also want to practice my Spanish, get to know another country, and try other foods.
- MY NAME IS ISAAC AND I LIVE IN NEW YORK STATE.
I decided to participate in Milpa because I was interested in the perspective it has on youth, sustainability, and territorial work.
It seems to me that the action we do is very important, specifically in these times of pandemic because many young people did not go to school for two years and also did not have access to food.
It is important to support the community in any way possible, that is why I decided to participate in Comunidad Milpa.
I also want to practice my Spanish but in a way that I am helping the community because that is important to me.
