December 22 marks the day we say goodbye to the Volunteer House on Avenida de Mayo and start a new chapter in Pacheco.
Aurelien has spent over 12 weeks with Voluntario Global. He was volunteering in the kindergarten and we had the chance to talk to him and ask some questions about his stay in Buenos Aires:
After 12 weeks as a communications volunteer with Voluntario Global, I have come to the end of my volunteer journey. For the last 3 months I have been visiting projects- kindergartens, community kitchens, radio projects, youth gardening projects and English institutes, taking photos, interviewing and writing blogs.
Buenos Aires is a city bursting with life, every hour of the day there's activity, music, movement. Cars pass by all through the night, the streets are rarely empty and some shops seem to just never close!
Today we decided to celebrate International Volunteers Day having some fun at the Volunteer's House! You cannot miss our volunteers' Mannequin Challenge!
Getting the train for the first time in Buenos Aires, I wasn’t sure what to expect. One of the great things about Buenos Aires is that public transport is cheap, and not as complicated as it looks!
As part of our travels we’d always wanted to spend some time volunteering. We found an organisation called Voluntario Global, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and decided to spend two weeks volunteering in two kindergardens in one of the most deprived areas of Buenos Aires.
Volunteering with Voluntario Global I’ve had the chance to experience life in Argentina’s vibrant capital, Buenos Aires. There are so many things I love about this city, the most beautiful purple trees, how we’re never far from a perfect spot to sit, play cards and drink mate, how there’s always music and celebration and how caring many of the people I’ve met here are… The list goes on. I know that the other volunteers love living in this city just like I do, so I chatted with some of them to find out what they would say is their favourite thing about Buenos Aires.
Voluntario Global’s mission is to help organizations from local communities and neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires to improve the work that they are already doing, to work towards strengthening local development.
The last weekend in October myself and some other Voluntario Global volunteers took a trip to Montevideo, Uruguay. It was the perfect way to spend a weekend doing something different and experiencing life in a different South American country, as well as being able to renew the Argentinian tourist visa.
Voluntario Global helps local communities by being available to discuss anything that local organizations need, and offering ideas for further change and development.
